Dear Friends of St. Andrew's,
From the founding of our Parish in 1958, we have grown and developed with Sierra Vista - as partners in building up this great community we call home.
Over the decades, we sought to be active participants in every aspect of community life. We believe that serving the common good and making this city a place where people come first, where the least and most easily-overlooked are served and cared for, and where the quality of life is enhanced for all our fellow citizens, is an essential witness to our faith.
We hope our parish church is a place where all experience the Presence of God and the welcome of God's People. We pray that its beauty will speak a wordless invitation to those who are seeking, those who are wearied by life's burdens and those who are drawn to lift their hearts in prayer.
We thank God for giving us this opportunity to extend His blessings and to share our church and campus facilities with the Sierra Vista community.
The pulse of St. Andrew's is reflected through our ministries and individual parishoner efforts. I hope to highlight these achievements and bring focus to upcoming events in the article following this message.
Yours because His,
Fr. Greg Adolf Pastor
Bienvenido
Padre Greg Adolf

We don’t have a “Parish Mission Statement” per se, but it would be difficult to come up with a better or more basic statement for our Parish’s ‘agenda for ministry’ than that of Pope Francis! We really begin, as everything does in our Catholic Faith, with the Mercy of God! The Mercy of God is not an abstract concept or an ideal of what Mercy could be, but the Mercy of God is actually incarnate (enfleshed) in the God/Man JESUS Christ. Everything that our Lord says and everything that He does demonstrates what this Mercy is all about, and it is infinite! This Mercy is really the heart of the Good News that we are each called to incarnate in our own daily lives. “Be merciful, as your Father in heaven is merciful.” (LUKE 6:36) We are never to keep this Mercy to ourselves, but we are always ‘sent’ by the Holy Spirit to live this Mercy in Mission (the meaning of the Latin word ‘missio’ is “sent”)! Recall Pope Benedict XVI’s words: “The Church doesn’t have a mission; the Church is Mission, or it’s not the Church of JESUS Christ!” At the conclusion of the Mass the Deacon (or Priest) proclaims this ‘sending’: “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord!” And so we take the Mercy which we ourselves have received into a world desperate for mercy! We become ministers/agents of that Mercy in Mission. The Church (all of us!) are being sent! Where? How far? To whom? To the Margins! To the littlest, the least, the most easily overlooked or forgotten, to whoever is ‘marginalized’ in our society and our neighborhoods! St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, Good Neighbor Alliance, Forgach House, the County Jail, the Hospital and Nursing Homes, to name but a few! AND, stretching beyond the immediate neighborhood of our own Parish, we look to the world – Nigeria, Haiti, Ecuador, Mexico, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, to name but a few places beyond the margins of our own immediate community! All of our Parish activities, ministries, and priorities should be shaped and informed by the “three M’s” and, of course, what is true of the Parish Community should be true of the ‘domestic Church’: our own homes and families!
FOOD for thought: There is a lot of arrogant criticism of Arizona’s ‘antiquated’ anti-abortion law of 1864. Consider that there is another law that dates back to the same decade. It is the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and it dates to 1868. It states that you cannot treat another human being as someone’s personal property: the immorality of slavery was declared illegal. The same principle applies in both laws: you cannot treat a human being as disposable personal property. You can’t ‘own’ another person as a possession. The immorality of abortion should also be illegal.
We recently took new clergy photos. We are so blessed with our priests and deacons!

Online Giving allows you to make your contribution electronically without the hassle of writing a check or carrying cash. Your contributions are recorded aiding in yearend tax preparation and reducing parish staff bookkeeping time and effort. Wait! What happens if I go TDY or need to leave the area for a while? No problem. You will continue to support St. Andrew's and its ministries no matter where you go. Your gift is always accounted for even when you are on vacation. OK, so, what happens when the offertory plate is passed to me at Mass and I don't place anything in it? Good question. Matthew 6:4 says "...so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." We are rapidly becoming a cashless society and Online Giving is the tool we are using today meeting our needs and looking ahead to the future. We thank you as always for your support of our parish and all of our ministries. Please use the button below and begin enjoying the safety and convenience Online Giving provides in weekly and single contributions.
“. . .But by thinking about the love God has for me, I regained my courage, for I never lost confidence in His mercy. In myself I lost it many times!”

This week’s Question: “What is the ‘College of Cardinals’”?
The Answer to Last Week’s Question: “What is the ‘Power of the Keys’”? The ‘Power of the Keys’ describes the Church’s spiritual authority and jurisdiction, symbolized by the ‘keys of the Kingdom’ that our Lord promised to St. Peter (Matthew 16:19). The pope, bishops and clergy share in this spiritual authority through Holy Orders (Ordination) and the delegation of authority for teaching and pastoral ministry. The crossed keys (silver and gold) are a symbol of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and are displayed above the doors of the Confessionals in our church!
