Pray for our missionaries throughout the world; the fingertips of our faith.
Mission in its broadest sense refers to any commission or power for carrying out an assignment. In theology, "mission" or "sending forth" has its principle in the Trinity; the Father sending forth the Son into the world.
Christ in turn sent forth the Apostles to "preach the gospel to every creature."
In this sense of "preaching the gospel," mission may be described as preaching to Christians to stir up the grace that is in them, or as a preaching to pagans to announce the good news of salvation. The latter is usually termed "foreign" mission, since historically Christianity developed in Western civilization, and countries not in the geographical sphere of this civilization were considered "foreign."
The missionary, however is an emissary of Christ not of the continent, a country, a culture or of commerce.

It was good going aboard a Chinese ship called the Tian Du Feng flagged by Hong Kong. It had a crew of 23, none of which had shore passes. I still had some sweatshirts to give out but am also starting to give T-shirts again. They loaded 66,000 metric tons of soy or 660 grain cars. It seems so strange ..... MORE
Chaplain Lloyd Bovee is the father of our Mary Oates. Chaplain Lloyd ministers in the Port of Tacoma WA, as part of the Lutheran Seamans' Mission.
Because of our special relationship with Chaplain Lloyd, we are providing him with rosaries and other Catholic devotional literature to share with the many Catholic sailors (mostly from the Philippines) he contacts in his visits aboard merchant ships.

The Haiti Project
Our Mother of Sorrows Parish: Joan Martin

Joan visits St. Andrews every January to provide us an update on her mission. In January 2009, St. Andrews contributed nearly $9,700 to her mission project through a Second Collection.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT: As disciples of Jesus we are called to love and to care for one another. We accept our call to reach out to all God's people, especially to those in need, so that the reign of God may be realized in our community, in our nation and in our world.
As participants in the Haiti Project, we embrace our responsibility to walk in solidarity with members of other communities in uniting our lives with those in the poorest nation of the western hemisphere.
Our mission is to provide spiritual, financial and missionary support, focusing on specific projects that enrich the quality of life for small groups in targeted communities. Working collaboratively, we seek to foster sustainability and self determination among the People of Haiti and together image God's love, compassion, mercy, and justice to each other.
