 Caritas Nepal

Caritas Nepal is the social arm of the Catholic Church in Nepal and about half of its staff members are Catholics. Although many of Caritas Nepal’s staff members are non-Catholics, they serve the organization with the same passion, pride and loyalty as their Catholic colleagues.

In solidarity with the underpriviledged, the marginalized and the needy

Vision: Caritas Nepal works to create an equitable, just, peaceful, democratic and pluralistic society where people respect each other and work together without any discrimination of caste, creed, race, ethnicity, and sex to realize the fundamental and universal principles of Human Rights and where the oppressed and marginalized people, empowered through animation and people’s organization, are able to achieve integral human development and become agents of social transformation.

Mission: Caritas Nepal commits itself to working among the poor and the marginalized in a coordinated way linking all programs of micro-credit, sustainable agriculture, gender development, peace, disaster mitigation, emergency relief and health awareness with the perspective of human rights approach and with the methodology of building groups and empowering them.

 Fr Silas in Rome
Fr. Greg,
Greetings from Rome!

I am attaching few pictures of today's general audience with Holy Father as he said Good Bye. There were thousands of people gathered to bid him farewell. He gave a quite a message for the Church. It was a emotional moment for all gathered there.

We also pray and wait for the new Pope.

Silas

MORE about Caritas Nepal

Dear Fr. Greg,
    Namaste from Kathmandu!

Thank you once again for yours and Parishioner's support and wanting to help Nepal. Before coming to Rome I was busy trying to start a new Mission. I  visited the proposed sight for School and  a New mission. The name of the place is Thokarpa in Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal. This district lies east of Kathmandu around six hours by Jeep. This district boarders with Tibet in the North and Tibet road is near by. The people of districts are mostly Tamangs a Tibeto Burmese race. Many of them live in poverty. Nepal is a very poor country aroun 40 percent of people live below one dollar a day. Nepal has 64 percent literacy rate in city but in rural area it falls down to 36 and girl child is not given education as people think she will get married and will go her husband's house......so why to educate? This mentality prevails among our rural people.
Thokarpa is centre for 4 villages. There are 2500 household in this area those who are near by but there are other villages also in few hours walking distance.

Below in the first picture People of Thokarpa eager to support for a school. Second picture Himalayan range seen from Thokarpa and third the village land where school will be built.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Silas Bogati
