Dear Friends of St. Andrew's,
From the founding of our Parish in 1958, we have grown and developed with Sierra Vista - as partners in building up this great community we call home.
Over the decades, we sought to be active participants in every aspect of community life. We believe that serving the common good and making this city a place where people come first, where the least and most easily-overlooked are served and cared for, and where the quality of life is enhanced for all our fellow citizens, is an essential witness to our faith.
We hope our parish church is a place where all experience the Presence of God and the welcome of God's People. We pray that its beauty will speak a wordless invitation to those who are seeking, those who are wearied by life's burdens and those who are drawn to lift their hearts in prayer.
We thank God for giving us this opportunity to extend His blessings and to share our church and campus facilities with the Sierra Vista community.
The pulse of St. Andrew's is reflected through our ministries and individual parishoner efforts. I hope to highlight these achievements and bring focus to upcoming events in the article following this message.
Yours because His,
Fr. Greg Adolf Pastor
Bienvenido
Padre Greg Adolf
Pastor
He wrote: “It is not only a great testimony to an inner depth and maturity, but it is, in fact, a school for interiority and consolation. It is also a school for the examination of conscience, for conversion, for inner transformation and compassion – not as sentimentality, as a mere feeling, but as a disturbing experience that knocks on the door of my heart, that obliges me to know myself, and to become a better person.” One of the most beautiful Lenten devotions in our Parish is the Friday “Stations of the Cross” prayed in English at 5:30 and in Spanish at 6:30. Many individuals and couples pray the Stations at different times – and the Stations of the Cross in the church are kept lighted during the day to facilitate that prayer. On Good Friday, we will pray a special “Marian Way of the Cross” at 12:00 Noon to begin the solemn Good Friday observances – the Tre Ore (Three Hour) Service at 12:45, the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 – all in preparation for the solemn and deeply moving Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 7:00 PM. Each year the Holy Father asks us to support the Church in the Holy Land with a special Good Friday Collection. This year our fellow Christians in the Holy Land are facing special and unique hardships – many of which we hear about in the daily news. The political, religious, and challenges of warfare are more complex than ever. The ongoing conflict is terribly destructive at many levels. Many Christians (for example 90% in Bethlehem) depend on the pilgrimage industry to live. They could not work during the pandemic, and the outbreak of war on 7 October has again stopped the pilgrimages from coming.
Last year, through your generous response to this Annual Papal Appeal last year, you help support 23 parishes and three academic institutions, offered more than 500 scholarships, helped keep schools open for over 10,000 pre-K through grade 12 students, supported Seminarians, restored and maintained 640 houses/apartments for Christian families, provided assistance for more than 9000 families through weekly food baskets, helped to preserve 80 shrines, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Basilica of the Nativity, providing employment for more than 1000 workers. (As you know, St. Andrew’s/Good Shepherd also has our own Scholarship Program at Bethlehem University!)
The Pontifical Collection for the Holy Land this Good Friday is particularly critical and your help is needed more than ever. Knights and Dames of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, whose Order is especially dedicated to supporting the Church in the Holy Lands, will be assisting us in receiving this Collection and in the liturgies of Good Friday!

Online Giving allows you to make your contribution electronically without the hassle of writing a check or carrying cash. Your contributions are recorded aiding in yearend tax preparation and reducing parish staff bookkeeping time and effort. Wait! What happens if I go TDY or need to leave the area for a while? No problem. You will continue to support St. Andrew's and its ministries no matter where you go. Your gift is always accounted for even when you are on vacation. OK, so, what happens when the offertory plate is passed to me at Mass and I don't place anything in it? Good question. Matthew 6:4 says "...so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." We are rapidly becoming a cashless society and Online Giving is the tool we are using today meeting our needs and looking ahead to the future. We thank you as always for your support of our parish and all of our ministries. Please use the button below and begin enjoying the safety and convenience Online Giving provides in weekly and single contributions.
“A person who governs his passions is master of the world. We must either command our passions or be enslaved by them. When it comes to evil, it is better to be a hammer than an anvil."

This week’s Question: “What is ‘Bright Week’?”
The Answer to Last Week’s Question: “Why is Holy Thursday called ‘Maundy Thursday’?” This is an ancient name for Holy Thursday, comes from JESUS’ words at the Last Supper: “Mandatum novum da nobis” [Latin] (“A new commandment I give you, love one another as I have loved you!” JOHN 13:34). That phrase began the ancient ceremony of foot washing – a deeply symbolic expression of humble service to others = love.
